PFFW & Politics
The Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin (PFFW) is a labor organization focused on securing fair wages, hours, and working conditions for our nearly 4,000 members.
Most core objectives of the PFFW are political; however, there are two areas we keep politics out of and that is our Honor Guard and Charitable Foundation. The PFFW is involved in politics because every decision that affects the work of a fire fighter is made by an elected official or someone appointed by an elected official. For that matter, several legislative issues impact safety in our communities. The Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation (PFFWCF) is not political and does not influence legislation. The PFFWCF is a fire safety advocate and below is an update on a few of the issues we are working on that affect our PFFWCF mission and vision to create a fire safe and burn free Wisconsin. More political action is needed when it comes to fire safety, burn prevention, and honoring our State’s fire fighters – we need your help.
- Legislation and advocacy for fire sprinklers. Restoring requirements for fire sprinklers in residential buildings with 3 or more units – currently only buildings with 20 or more units require fire sprinklers.
- Legislation that prohibits the sale of novelty lighters to minors and prohibits the display for retail sale of novelty lighters in an area of a retail establishment that is accessible to the general public.
- Legislation to restore a State tax form checkoff to fund the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial.
The PFFW’s strategic plan focuses on 3 C’s; Communities, Coalitions, and Common Sense. The PFFWCF encompasses the 3 C’s and more. The PFFWCF is working to create a fire safe and burn free Wisconsin for more than 5.7 Million people. Including supporting all fire fighters who serve their communities as professionals. To make a positive impact for a fire safe and burn free Wisconsin, we need all hands working.
